John Rinehard Award

The John Rinehart Award was established to recognize outstanding effort and creative work in the science and technology of dynamic processes in materials and related applications. This encompasses the processes by which materials are welded, formed, compacted, and synthesized, as well as dynamic deformation, fracture, and extreme shock loading effects.

The award is named after a true pioneer who witnessed and actively contributed to the field for more than forty years. Initially, this award was given every five years, at the occasion of the EXPLOMET conferences. The selection of the first two awards, announced in August 1990, was made by a committee composed of the EXPLOMET chairmen and Dr. J. S. Rinehart. In subsequent years, the awardees chaired the committee for future awards, thereby establishing a permanent committee. For the selection of the award candidates, special attention has been paid to the balancing fundamental science and technological implementation.

Since 2009, DYMAT is the Custodian of the Award. Every three years, a special jury, composed of the members of the DYMAT International Advisory Committee and members of the DYMAT Governing Board, vote and select two winners.

PhD Thesis Prize

Within the framework of DYMAT’s International Conference 2024, the Governing Board of the European Association for the Promotion of Research into the Dynamic Behaviour of Materials and its Applications awards one Ph.D. thesis prize to recognize the excellency of a recent Ph.D. in the field of the dynamic behaviour of materials and its applications.

Personal prize reward: 2.000 €

Eligibility:
    • The candidate must have successfully defended his/her Ph.D. thesis at their home institution in the September 1st, 2021 – April 15, 2024 period;
    • The candidate must have at least one first-author manuscript published or accepted for publication in an international journal;
    • The winner has to be available to attend onsite the DYMAT 2024 International Conference.

The application must include:
    • Extended 6 page abstract of the Ph.D. thesis (in English);
    • CV of the candidate, including:
        - Full citation of a first-author manuscript (published or accepted for publication);
        - Full list of publications;
        - List of academic and professional awards, if applicable;
        - Relevant professional experience, including teaching duties, if applicable;
    • An electronic copy of the Ph.D. diploma or certificate;
    • An electronic copy or link to the Ph.D. thesis manuscript;
    • An electronic copy of the first-author manuscript.

A selection of candidates will be asked to present his/her work to the panel at the occasion of dedicated webinar sessions.Webinar sessions will be organized and broadcasted in May-June 2024 (15 minutes per selected applicant), then recorded and available on
